Take a step aside from that which is said to glitter like gold, and see it for what it truly is — fleeting. And that which has glittered, that which has caught our eye and kept us from that that our hearts have undoubtedly yearned for; yes, it has glittered and now it is gone. To us, upon the hand of tomorrow, is offered yet another opportunity; call it transcendence, a “new slate,” if you may. Because, more than anything, the most devastating truth is this — there is more time than life. The hours run, but have you? Have you moved, and if you have, has it been forward? Time has no patience, nor does it need reason; and whether you have said your prayers or not, it shall continue. See, despite all that could happen, despite all that has happened, are you not alive? And if you are alive, then tell me: What are you doing despite time?
Yes, life is all, but easy. Yet, are you not capable of great things? Great things mustn’t glitter, but such acts must draw eyes. So in all you do, draw eyes toward that of hope, of love, of faith. Have we not seen much more than we can bare? Let our acts bring light to those things that we do not understand. In this New Year, let us act in selflessness rather than in selfishness. Be that which glitters, be life! There is more time than life, yes, such a statement is true, yet this life, in all its many complexities is compiled of that of many moments. In these moments, bring life to this time, to this time that air comes so freely to fill our lungs.
So to you who perhaps is downtrodden, to you who is in ill company, to you who feels unaccomplished; look not to that which has consumed your life, but instead to that which has encouraged it. In all you do, you are worthy. In this New Year, deliver yourself from all that has robbed you and live a life that glitters not of gold, but of purpose.
In this life, there are many things worth more than that which glitters; there is family, there are friends, there is love. Are we so selfish as to spend something so precious in pursuit of that which will only bring possession upon ourselves? Look around! Are your eyes not open? There is so much worth living for. I shall speak for myself, and in retrospect hope to speak for you as well, when I say this: Enough time has been spent in the mediocre, as of now, I work for that which is grand. There will be upset, there will be distraction and hurt, but too, shall there be many worthwhile rewards for my labor. I have raised my chin, and lent my heart to the good of humanity; it is still there, alive and well. It has been hidden, only showing in moments, but this I will say in bold declaration: When you stand on sure feet, no ground can shake you.
Let us be more than witnesses, let us be active participants in this gift of life; and by doing so, time will have no hold on us.
